COMO Cocoa Island

Makunufushi South Malé Atoll, Makunufushi, Kaafu Atoll, 08480, Maldives

COMO Cocoa Island sits on calm turquoise waters. The island is a slender 350 metres long, with a sand spit extending into the sea and receding with the tide. The natural landscape remains largely untouched, with palms, wild sea grapes, and hibiscus. A house reef encircles Cocoa Island, forming a pristine lagoon alive with marine life including rays and young sharks. The lagoon is free of strong currents, making it an ideal choice for families. The resort's design is by Singaporean architect Cheong Yew Kuan, with a restrained look that blends contemporary style and indigenous influences. Thirty-three rooms sit over the lagoon on the southern side, reached by planked walkways. Structures combine New Zealand pine with Kajan thatch, with interiors that use natural materials, high raftered ceilings, and glossy teak flooring. Inside and out merge on the horizon, with floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto substantial decks that slip into the water. The deck space provides privacy for sunbathing or al fresco dining. The white-and-blue interiors convey a calm, Hamptons-inspired beach hut vibe rather than a rough rustic aesthetic. Ufaa, the restaurant meaning 'happy' in Maldivian, sits at the water’s edge as a foot-in-the-sand space seating about 60 in covered and open-air areas, flanking the resort’s infinity pool; Ufaa serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The resort also houses a COMO Shambhala Retreat dedicated to yoga and wellness treatments.
